10 Things to Do in Calgary in October 2026

Looking for things to do in Calgary in October 2026?

Fall is officially here, hockey is back, Halloween is around the corner, and Calgary has a packed calendar of concerts, sporting events, festivals and family activities this month.

Whether you already live in Calgary, you're visiting the city, or you're thinking about making Calgary home, we've put together some of the biggest Calgary events happening in October 2026.

And yes — hockey fans have plenty to look forward to.

Calgary Events in October 2026

October is one of those months when there's a little bit of everything happening around the city. You've got NHL hockey returning, live music, fall festivals and plenty of Halloween-themed events as we get closer to the end of the month.

Here are some events worth putting on your calendar.

1. Calgary Flames Hockey is Back

October means the return of Calgary Flames hockey and the last season of the iconic Scotiabank Saddledome!

If you've never experienced a Flames game in person, it's one of those quintessential Calgary experiences — especially once the weather starts cooling down.

The Flames have multiple home dates during October, giving you several opportunities to catch a game at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

And whether you're a die-hard hockey fan or just enjoy the atmosphere of a live game, a Flames night is a pretty great excuse to head downtown.

2. Catch a Calgary Wranglers Game

The Flames aren't the only hockey team playing in Calgary this month.

The Calgary Wranglers are also back in action, with six home games in October.

The Wranglers are Calgary's AHL team and offer a fun, generally more affordable way to catch professional hockey in the city.

They play home games against Abbotsford and Bakersfield early in the month before Laval comes to Calgary for two games to finish October.

3. Calgary Hitmen Hockey

We've got even more hockey.

The Calgary Hitmen are back for another WHL season with several home games in October.

Hitmen games are particularly good for families looking for an affordable afternoon or evening out.

So if NHL tickets aren't in the budget — or you just love junior hockey — put a Hitmen game on your October calendar.

4. Calgary Horror Con

If Halloween is your thing, October has you covered.

Calgary Horror Con takes place October 3–4 at the Genesis Centre.

Expect a weekend celebrating horror movies, pop culture, costumes, vendors and everything creepy.

And considering Halloween is only a few weeks away, the timing couldn't be much better.

5. CIBC Run for the Cure

On October 4, Calgary participates in the annual CIBC Run for the Cure.

The event brings people together in support of Canadians impacted by breast cancer and takes place at Southcentre Mall.

It's one of the larger community events happening in Calgary during the first weekend of October.

6. ScreamFest

If you actually enjoy having people jump out of dark corners at you — October is your month.

ScreamFest returns to Stampede Park beginning October 9 and runs through much of October.

It's one of Calgary's biggest Halloween attractions, with haunted houses, entertainment and plenty of opportunities to scare yourself voluntarily.

Personally, some of us may question why anyone pays money for that experience.

But apparently people love it.

7. Calgary Tattoo & Arts Festival

The Calgary Tattoo & Arts Festival takes over the BMO Centre from October 16–18.

The festival brings together tattoo artists, vendors, entertainment and tattoo culture from Calgary and beyond.

Even if you're not planning your next tattoo, there's plenty to see over the three-day event.

8. Halloween Events Around Calgary

As you would expect, the second half of October is packed with Halloween events in Calgary.

You'll find haunted attractions, family activities, special events and Halloween celebrations throughout the city.

One to watch for at the end of the month is ZooBOO at the Calgary Zoo, which begins October 31 and continues into November.

If you've got kids, there are plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween without necessarily subjecting them to ScreamFest!

9. Live Music & Concerts in Calgary

October also brings another busy month of concerts and live music in Calgary.

From major venues to smaller clubs and theatres, there are dozens of performances scheduled throughout the city.

One notable October show is UB40, scheduled to perform at the Grey Eagle Event Centre on October 14.

With concert announcements constantly changing, it's worth checking Calgary's current events calendar before making your weekend plans.

10. Explore Calgary's Fall Events

You don't necessarily need tickets to a hockey game or concert to enjoy October in Calgary.

This is one of the nicest times of year to explore the city before winter really arrives.

There are fall markets, art shows, Halloween events and community activities happening throughout October.

And if the weather cooperates, it's also a great time to get outside and enjoy Calgary's pathways, parks and changing fall colours.

Because, as every Calgarian knows, those fall colours aren't necessarily going to stick around very long.
